After the disruptions of Oklahoma statehood, it was not until the 1970s that the Cherokee Nation government found its current structure. One person who led our people through this era was former Principal Chief Ross Swimmer. His administration ratified a Constitution for Cherokee Nation and laid the groundwork for where our nation is today.
