Camp Gruber and the Displacement of Cherokee Families
During World War II the United States Government built military training camps to prepare US troops to fight overseas. Covering more than 65,000 acres, Camp Gruber was established near Braggs, Oklahoma in 1942. The construction of Camp Gruber took a heavy toll on Native American families who were displaced when Cherokee allotment lands were condemned in order for the camp to be built.
