During World War II the United States government built Camp Gruber near Braggs, Oklahoma. The construction of Camp Gruber took a heavy toll on Cherokee families who were displaced in order for the camp to be built.

Hunter’s Home in Park Hill, Oklahoma lies just south of the Cherokee Nation capital of Tahlequah. It was here where a prominent couple built their home after their forced removal from Tennessee.

As the first secular school west of the Mississippi River, the Cherokee Male Seminary symbolized the spirit of resilience and ingenuity of Cherokee people. Understanding that education was key to raising up a new generation, the school was created to prepare young Cherokee students for university as well as ground them in their culture and heritage.
